Statement of Ethical Principles
Maxygen endorses the BIO Statement of Principles. These principles outline a code of ethical and socially responsible behavior for the development of products using biotechnology. Central to these Principles are respect and concern for the social and ethical implications of biotechnology, a commitment to work with the public to arrive at mutual understanding and appropriate oversight, and agreement that norms of behavior must be followed for protecting animal welfare in research, confidentiality of patient information, and adherence to strict informed consent procedures. These principles also promote sustainable agricultural practices with attendant environmental benefits while enhancing the world's food supply and prohibit any member company from undertaking research intended for development of weapons. Maxygen supports and follows these principles.
